A firm that invests clients' money through funds or separate mandates for a fee, usually a percentage of the sums invested; mostly long-only and judged against a benchmark index (BlackRock, Vanguard, Amundi).
Example
A 0.50% fee on $10 billion of assets is $50 million a year.
