A raw, interchangeable physical good such as crude oil, natural gas, gold, copper, wheat or corn; traders mostly get exposure through futures rather than handling barrels or bars.
Example
“Crude’s up 4% on supply cuts”: you’d trade it via WTI futures (CL) or an oil ETF.
